District M – Communal Moss Framing Mural

A Collaborative Nature-Inspired Art Installation | Marina Square, Singapore

As part of District M’s public activation at Marina Square, The Mystic Gardens was entrusted to conceptualize, facilitate, and deliver a collaborative art installation that would spark joy, creativity, and community engagement through nature-based media.

Here’s how we helped bring the 1.4m x 1m Communal Moss Mural to life:

✨ Project Scope & Responsibilities
1️⃣ Concept Development & Art Direction
Proposed the idea of a modular moss mural, where each participant could create a 12cm x 12cm frame to be assembled into a cohesive larger artwork.

Designed the colour palette, layout flow, and natural aesthetic to reflect District M’s vision for a calming, inclusive, and eco-conscious experience.

2️⃣ Material Procurement & Quality Control
Sourced high-quality preserved moss in varied textures and natural tones (green, chartreuse, forest, sand).

Prepped and quality-checked 100+ mini wooden frames, backings, adhesive materials, labels, and signage in advance.

3️⃣ Workshop Facilitation & On-Site Execution
Led a trained team of facilitators to guide participants through the moss design process with step-by-step support.

Managed participant flow to ensure smooth transitions, material replenishment, and timely mural assembly during the 2-day event.

Created a relaxed, welcoming setup with clear instructions and visual aids for all age groups.

4️⃣ Community Engagement & Inclusion
Fostered an open space for intergenerational creativity, welcoming young children, adults, and seniors alike.

Encouraged participants to contribute not just artistically, but also emotionally—many wrote notes or took pictures with their completed frame before it was added to the collective mural.

5️⃣ Final Mural Assembly & Display
Coordinated the live assembly of the 1.4m x 1m mural on-site using a flexible mounting system.

Worked with District M’s event team to install the artwork at the showcase area, ensuring visual harmony and structural safety.
